So this was a few weeks back (Dec 30th)...but since she's proved to be fine, I'll blog about it.
We were headed to playgroup. The car was in the driveway. Ty got himself in; I picked Syd up & placed her in her car seat. Right now she is in her full-blown 2 year old phase. She started to throw her tantrum (throwing her body) & yell that she was going to do it herself. I placed her on the floor of the car, left the door open & turned to go inside to get 1 more thing. Then...I hear boom, boom. I turn around & she is lying on the concrete. I quickly ran back, scooped her up. She was doing the inhale before the BIG cry. She inhaled forever, let out a little cry & then went unconscious. I was so scared & thought she hit hard enough to kill her. I started yelling her name to wake up. She did for a moment & then was out again. The phone was in the garage so I grabbed it & called 911. Sydney woke up again & was crying through my call. I was so scared she would go out again. They quickly got us a fire truck & ambulance. Jeff rushed home from the tournament he was working. They had me on the gurney with Sydney strapped on top of me, hooked to monitors. At this point Sydney was excited that she could see Dad's Mustang (as she says, horsy) behind us, following us to the hospital. By the time we got to the ER & waited to get in & the cat-scan, we knew she was fine. She was herself again & could remember & do everything. They determined that it was the drawn out inhale that was making her pass-out.
She has been perfectly fine since, but that was probably my scariest day. I really thought I could have lost her because of my lack of knowledge. Despite the multiple CPR & first aid classes Jeff has given me, I still feel so helpless. Now when she is acting unsafely stubborn we remind her that we don't want the firemen to have to come save her. It usually works.
BTW, If anyone wants to join us for a CPR FHE let me know. Jeff has dummies he can bring home & get us all brushed up on our skills.
